Ligeia's Reflections on the 1996 Year's Poe Celebrations...

I didn't make it to the event:( It was sooo cold Friday night, then it flooded in D.C. & Northern VA (that's where I live) on sat & sun. All the forces of nature were against me:( A friend of mine (that lives in MD) made it here's what she said:

Bloodnight of AOL Speaketh...

Did you get to see the puppet show? It was quite surreal and fantastic. You may have gotten the grave robber instead--I wasn't sure. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. We had been planning on going to the cemetery and the Poe House anyway, and we would have been disappointed if you hadn't emailed the info when you did. Many thanks!

Ligeia's Reflections Continued...

I was upset that I didn't get to go:( But since I live about 35 min. away. I usually stop by & have readings on my own:) The cemetery is very interesting. It has an Egyptian motif (The main gates have scarabs & Hieroglyphics) There's a big pyramid behind the church (but it all covered w/ivy, & uncared for) there's catacombs underneath the church. Speaking of the church, I honestly feel that it's exploiting Poe's grave. -btw-Westminster has been rebuilt, the outside is pretty. But the inside SUCKS

(it's modern & looks like sh*t)

I took a tour of the Richmond Museum & was disappointed. They tour guide didn't have a clue & he "Politically Corrected" Poe's life (Don't want to offend any of those southern baptist folk that visit). He actually said that Poe did not drink & when ever he was in Richmond he went to Church w/his mother (yeah right) There are 2 high points of the tour.

  1. The artist Guestave Dhour (sp?) did a rendition of the "Raven". It's incredible--what I wouldn't do for a copy;)
  2. a beautiful marble statue. (i'm running out of time I'll try to explain it later)

Thanks
Ligeia
She came & departed as a shadow

PF replies: I'm sure Poe would be turning in his grave for such smoothing over of his life, OR really just for one small sip of that cognac dropped off by the mysterious visitor!
